ISLAMABAD: The United States has expressed support for Pakistan’s right to defend itself amid escalating tensions and cross-border attacks attributed to the Afghan Taliban.
US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker stated on X that she had spoken with Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary to convey condolences over lives lost in the recent conflict between Pakistan and the Taliban.
“We continue to monitor the situation closely and expressed support for Pakistan’s right to defend itself against Taliban attacks,” she said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister’s spokesperson for foreign media Mosharraf Zaidi provided an operational update on Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, stating that Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts targeting militant elements operating from Afghan territory continued throughout the day.
According to the statement, a total of 297 Afghan Taliban fighters have been confirmed killed, with more than 450 reported injured. Additionally, 89 Taliban posts were destroyed and 18 captured during the operation. Pakistani forces also reportedly destroyed 135 regime tanks and armed personnel carriers.
The spokesperson added that 29 locations across Afghanistan were subjected to aerial targeting as part of the ongoing operation.
The developments mark a significant escalation in military activity, with diplomatic engagement and security operations proceeding in parallel as regional tensions remain high.
